Convocation

I will be attending convocation tomorrow, where I will be officially awarded my PhD. I was delighted to learn this evening that I will be sharing this ceremony with two honorary degree recipients whom I admire, Bob McDonald and Mark Tewksbury.

I have spent many hours listening to Bob McDonald on Quirks and Quarks -- initially on Saturdays while driving a tractor on the farm, and more recently at my leisure as a podcast. Bob helped cultivate my interests in science.

Mark Tewksbury is one of my personal heroes. An excellent athlete brave enough to announce his homosexuality while still competing. A true inspiration! I have bumped into him a couple of times in Calgary and Banff, but have never been so forward as to talk with him. Perhaps next time I will now that we have something in common. :-)

What an honour to share my degree with these two recipients!
